What

This workshop is designed for people who do not know much about electronics but would like to learn how to solder. In this workshop, you will learn how to solder capacitors, resistors, and ICs onto a printed circuit board. You will learn how to solder and de-solder through hole components and (hopefully) have a functional multimeter when the event is done.

When

  • October 21 from 7:30pm to 9:00pm (to be continued on the following two Wednesdays November 4, November 11)

Where

  • Baltimore Node! 120 W North Ave, Baltimore, MD

Who

  • Organizing - Sepideh Miller

How

  • use eventbrite to limit # of participants to 8
  • $65 for non-node members registered through eventbrite
  • $40 for node members paid by check or paypal directly to the Node (Please let me know if you do this.)

Preparation

  • nail down date
  • register event with eventbrite http://www.eventbrite.com/event/434646038
  • blog about it
  • flyers (Kelly made a nice one, now we need to post them)
  • soldering irons (We have 6 cheap ones, may need to borrow some if all 10 people sign up.)
  • 5 spools soldering wick
  • soldering iron stands
  • wire snippers
  • some sponges (and access to water - or a container w/ water)
  • first aid kit

Eventbrite text:

This workshop will give you an opportunity to build a circuit by soldering components such as resistors, capacitors and ICs onto a printed circuit board. You will learn how to solder and de-solder through-hole components, and (hopefully) have a functional multimeter when the whole thing is done.
You will be building this kit:

Extra large 1", 3-1/2 digit display
Transistor tester
Overload protection
Capacitance to 200µF
Diode test
Audio continuity
AC/DC current to 20A
Low Battery indication
Rubber holster
Tilt stand
Safety input sockets and test leads
